Nantes University Hospital project using EXEGY®L+C3 very-low-carbon concrete
“The collaboration initiated in 2021 between Imerys and VINCI Construction represents another milestone in Imerys’ drive to reduce its own emissions by 42% by 2030 (compared with 2021 levels) and to help decarbonise products for its clients in the construction industry.
From the initial discussions, the combined expertise of VINCI Construction’s concrete experts and our teams from the Imerys Technology Centre (in Isère) laid the foundations for a fruitful partnership, centred around innovation and sustainability.
Our joint work has focused on the development and the crossover study-based characterisation of a grade of metakaolin – ARGICAL M1000C – specifically tailored to construction market requirements, and more specifically the EXEGY®L+C3 very‑low‑carbon concrete solution. This innovation features in the Nantes University Hospital project, which aims to use 100% low-carbon concrete – including some with our Argical metakaolin. This project is our first collaboration, and I hope our partnership will be a long-lasting one, rooted in a shared commitment to developing virtuous construction-industry solutions on many projects in the future.
On a more general note, the vision shared by Imerys and VINCI Construction for the future of metakaolin as an alternative to blast-furnace slag opens up new opportunities. We operate in France and around the world, so we are ideally positioned to support VINCI Construction in its efforts to expand the use of low‑carbon concrete.”
